Pace Scenario Intelligence
CHAOS · LONE SPD · CONTESTED · MATCH
Arion classifies every race into a pace scenario using the last 12 starts of each horse in the field — weighted by recency and confidence. The verdict (CHAOS, LONE SPD, CONTESTED, MATCH) tells you the shape of the race before the gate opens, so you know which running styles have the edge.

At the track, the program is a moving target. Arion's Live Change Board is the only tool that keeps your composite scores current as changes are announced.

  • Drivers In Today's Card
See every driver on the day's card grouped by race. Same-race swaps are flagged with a ⚡ icon and recalculate without leaving the sheet.
  • Catch Driver Warning
When no named substitute is listed, Arion applies the –1.5 catch driver penalty and flags the entry in amber so you know the risk before you bet.
  • Scratch Cascade
Scratching a horse triggers a full field reclassification — pace scenario, fair odds, and score rankings all recalculate around the new field size.
  • Track Condition Override
Switch between Fast, Good, Muddy, Sloppy, and variants with a tap. Surface adjustments propagate to all horse scores based on individual track bias.

Race-day decisions are made after the program changes.

The desktop is where the deep work happens. The mobile app is where the field changes, scratches, track conditions, and live adjustments stay with you.

Every oval has its own signal.

Project Arion does not treat same-size tracks as identical. Geometry, turns, stretch length, banking tendencies, post behavior and local pace shape all become part of the race-day intelligence layer.

Blueprint-driven track modeling. Track dimensions and geometric profiles are built into the larger desktop engine, then carried forward into mobile racecards as track-aware context for live decisions.

New to Arion? Here's exactly what every number, abbreviation, and color on the race card means — so you can read the board as fast as a pro.

PW
Pace Watts
Raw pace power score from the horse's quarter-mile splits weighted by recency. Higher = faster overall pace profile. Comparable across every horse in the same field.
SYN
Synergy Score
Horse-driver chemistry built from shared starts. The single most predictive feature in the model (SHAP 1.087). 0.00 = no prior history. Higher = stronger partnership.
OS
Odds Shift Ratio
Compares Arion's fair-odds estimate to the morning line. 2.16x means the public is undervaluing this horse by 2.16×. The public mispricing signal (SHAP 0.281).
DRV
Driver Win %
The assigned driver's current-season win percentage at this class level. Shown in teal alongside the OS ratio — e.g., 15.7% = wins roughly 1 in 6 starts.
PD
Pace Dominant Score
The composite ranking number. Sums pace power, driver quality, synergy, and all active adjustments. The field is sorted by PD descending — highest PD is the top selection.
ML
Morning Line Odds
The track handicapper's pre-race estimate. Arion uses this as the baseline market probability to compute the OS ratio and identify fair-value edge opportunities.
KEY
Key Pick
Arion's top selection — highest composite PD score that clears the Kelly filter. Use as your primary single and the anchor of your exotics.
WATCH
Watch Horse
Second-tier selection with a meaningful score behind the KEY. Include in exacta/trifecta boxes. Often a live longshot worth singling in multi-race sequences.
CONF
Confidence Level
How much data backs this race's verdict. HIGH = strong sample, trust it. LOW = limited history — the verdict is directional but treat with more caution.
GAP
Score Gap
Composite score difference between the #1 and #2 ranked horses. GAP 0.4+ = lean hard on the KEY. Under 0.2 = tightly matched, play wider exotics.
PACE
Pace Type
Expected tempo. NORMAL = typical fractions for the class. LONE SPD = one horse likely leads uncontested — a major front-runner advantage.
VERDICT
Race Shape Verdict
Arion's classification of how the race figures to be run based on the collective styles in the field. See Styles & Verdicts tab for full breakdown.
Q1–Q4
Avg / Weighted Quarter Splits
Average time (seconds) per quarter, weighted by recency. Q4 is highlighted in gold — the closing quarter is the most telling for late-pace scenarios.
LQ1–LQ4
Last Race Quarter Splits
Actual quarter times from the horse's most recent start. Compare LQ4 to Q4 — a better recent closing split signals a horse coming into form.
GRADE
Q4 Grade
Letter grade for closing fraction quality. A = elite closer (top 10% of field). F = known fader. Feeds directly into the FADE rating displayed on each horse card.
Q4 Z
Q4 Z-Score
Statistical comparison of this horse's closing quarter to the field average. Positive = closes faster than average. Negative = fades relative to the field. Example: +1.53 is elite; –1.60 is a confirmed fader.
WIN %
Model Win Probability
Arion's calculated probability this horse wins, shown as a percentage bar. Pure merit estimate — not the tote odds. Compare to ML to identify where the value is mispriced.
LAYOFF
Days Since Last Race
Days off since the horse's last start. 6d = sharp and ready. 30d+ = extended layoff — Arion applies a trainer-stat-based layoff adjustment to the score automatically.
TRACK VAR
Track Variant
Daily speed bias of the surface. Green = fast bias. Red = slow/tiring. Example: +8.0 means the track is playing significantly faster than par today.
FADE
Fade Tendency
How much this horse typically weakens in the final quarter. LOW = minimal fade. MED = some fade. HIGH = confirmed fader — dangerous to single in hot-pace scenarios.
FR
Pos 1–2 at ¼
Front Runner. Takes the lead immediately and sets every fraction. Thrives when alone on the front end.
PR
Pos 3–4 at ¼
Presser. Tracks just off the leader in striking position throughout. Often gets the ideal trip.
ST
Pos 4–6 at ¼
Stalker. Sits mid-pack, waits for the leaders to tire, makes a sustained middle move.
CL
Pos 6+ at ¼
Closer. Last off the pace — depends on a fast early tempo to set up a final-quarter sweep.
CHAOS
Multiple speed horses battle for the lead. Unpredictable fractions — pressers and stalkers benefit most.
LONE SPD
One horse leads uncontested. Massive advantage — front runner dictates on their own terms.
CONTESTED
Two closely matched speed horses. Fast early fractions — closers and low-fade stalkers move up in value.
MATCH
Evenly matched field, no clear pace edge. Most likely to produce a true-test result — back the highest raw PW score.
DRIVER
Driver Adjustment
Score modifier based on the driver's win rate, track record, and UDR. Positive = above-average driver. Negative = below average. Recalculates instantly when you tap DRIVER and swap.
TRAINER
Trainer Adjustment
Modifier for the trainer's win rate in similar conditions — same class, layoff range, and surface. Elite trainers with strong first-off-layoff stats add positive points automatically.
SURFACE
Surface Adjustment
Applied when track condition differs from normal. Reflects how each horse's splits shift under wet, muddy, or variant conditions. Use the FT/GD/MY/HY/SY/SN buttons to override and watch scores update.
–1.5
Catch Driver Penalty
Applied when no named substitute is listed after a driver change. An unknown catch driver is a risk — Arion penalizes –1.5 points and flags the entry in amber automatically.
+3.5
1st Lasix Boost
The largest medication adjustment. First-time Lasix historically produces the most significant performance jump in harness racing. Tap MED/EQ → 1ST LASIX to apply.
+2.0
Blinkers On
Focuses horses racing erratically or drifting. Second-largest equipment boost. Blinkers Off carries a –1.5 penalty when a horse that relied on them races without.
